Data Workflow - A Workflow Model for Continuous Data Processing

چکیده

Online data or streaming data are getting more and more important for enterprise information systems, e.g. by integrating sensor data and workflows. The continuous flow of data provided e.g. by sensors requires new workflow models addressing the data perspective of these applications, since continuous data is potentially infinite while business process instances are always finite. In this paper a formal workflow model is proposed with data driven coordination and explicating properties of the continuous data processing. These properties can be used to optimize data workflows, i.e., reducing the computational power for processing the workflows in an engine by reusing intermediate processing results in several workflows.

A Novel Assisted History Matching Workflow and its Application in a Full Field Reservoir Simulation Model

The significant increase in using reservoir simulation models poses significant challenges in the design and calibration of models. Moreover, conventional model calibration, history matching, is usually performed using a trial and error process of adjusting model parameters until a satisfactory match is obtained. In addition, history matching is an inverse problem, and hence it may have non-uni...

Towards Continuous Workflow Enactment Systems

Traditional workflow enactment systems and workflow design processes view the workflow as a one-time interaction with the various data sources, executing a series of steps once, whenever the workflow results are requested. The fundamental underlying assumption has been that data sources are passive and all interactions are structured along the request/reply (query) model. Hence, traditional Wor...

Smart Scheduling of Continuous Data-Intensive Workflows with Machine Learning Triggered Execution

To extract value from evergrowing volumes of data, coming from a number of different sources, and to drive decision making, organizations frequently resort to the composition of data processing workflows, since they are expressive, flexible, and scalable. The typical workflow model enforces strict temporal synchronization across processing steps without accounting the actual effect of intermedi...

A Clustering Approach to Scientific Workflow Scheduling on the Cloud with Deadline and Cost Constraints

One of the main features of High Throughput Computing systems is the availability of high power processing resources. Cloud Computing systems can offer these features through concepts like Pay-Per-Use and Quality of Service (QoS) over the Internet. Many applications in Cloud computing are represented by workflows. Quality of Service is one of the most important challenges in the context of sche...

WaaS: Workflow-as-a-Service for the Cloud with Scheduling of Continuous and Data-Intensive Workflows

Data-intensive and long-lasting applications running in the form of workflows are being increasingly dispatched to cloud computing systems. Current scheduling approaches for graphs of dependencies fail to deliver high resource efficiency while keeping computation costs low, especially for continuous data processing workflows, where the scheduler does not perform any reasoning about the impact n...
